Peace
(Originally published February 14, 2015) “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.” Luke 19:42, NLT
The “You” referred to in this passage of Scripture is the city of Jerusalem. The name Jerusalem means the city of peace. So when Jesus says He wishes the city understood the way to peace. He could be saying the city was not living up to their calling to be THE City of Peace. They are being, well, just a city. A city like any other city. Now forgive me for my debased train of thought here. Nevertheless, when I read it it reminded me of the derogatory term used to describe some women as THOT’s or “that ho over there”.
Urban Dictionary defines a thot as a person, usually female, who is trashy or has loose moral standards and just happens to be close when such “activity” is desired. No person was created to be a thot. No parent wants their child to grow up and be a thot. The thot, like Jerusalem, isn’t living up to their divinely inspired greatness.
I believe we all have a divinely inspired greatness destined for our lives- people, animals, businesses, and cities alike. I believe we all have the ability to live up to it, or to live below it. When you don’t live up to your high calling you are just another city, just another church, just another preacher, just another whatever. A Statistic. Please don’t be just another whatever in a world full of statistics. You were not created to be just a church, just a bank, just a whatever. You weren’t.
Be the amazing, unique, one-in-an-eternity you that you are. I would hate to think of Jesus weeping over your life. You are more than just a thot; you are God’s Virtuous Woman. You are more than just a city; you are the crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord. You are the lamp on the stand, lighting the way to freedom. You are His example of greatness appointed for such a time as this.
